On Saturday, August 28th, the Bleeding Heartland Code Blue Assassins and Flatliners will duke it out on the track with the Ohio Rollergirls.  Come on out to the AIR CONDITIONED Twin Lakes Recreation Center (formerly, Sportsplex) for a night of thrills and spills! Catch TWO bouts for the price of one in a rousing roller derby double header!

BHRG will be supporting Amethyst House at this game.  You can help us out by bringing any denomination of Kroger gift card, which will be used to help residents obtain food to prepare meals.  Amethyst House, Inc., is a Bloomington, IN based not-for-profit United Way agency that provides residential and outpatient services for people with drug and alcohol addiction with an additional outpatient office in Evansville, Indiana.  Their mission is to provide high quality, structured living environments, treatment, education and recovery services to individuals with addictions and substance abuse issues.

Twin Lakes Recreation Center (formerly Sportsplex) is located at 1700 W. Bloomfield Rd. (west 2nd Street). Doors open at 5pm. First bout starts at 6pm. Don’t be late!

Bloomington’s own Bleeding Heartland Roller Girls (BHRG) are fixin’ to head south to Knoxville, TN!  On Saturday, August 14th, the BHRG Code Blue Assassins and Flatliners will don their derby panties in the city that hails as the Underwear Capital of the World and lock skates with the Hard Knox Roller Girls (HKRG).  Doors open at 5pm.  Don’t be late; you won’t want to miss any of the action when our Code Blue Assassins wrangle with the HKRG Brawlers at 6pm.  At 8pm, get ready for the Main Event when BHRG’s Flatliners challenge the South Central Region’s 9th-ranked HKRG Allstars.  Last year’s matchup between BHRG and HKRG was a nail-biter til the end, with both teams maintaining low-scoring jams and smart strategic plays throughout the game and ending with a 97-75 win for the Flatliners.

Plan to take a little road trip and join us at the Knoxville Civic Coliseum (500 Howard Baker Junior Boulevard).  Bring your Hoosier hysteria and cheer on BHRG!

Adult tickets can be purchased at the door for $12.50.  Kids (5-12) are $6.25 and children 5 & under are free.  Tickets are also available for purchase online at Tickets Unlimited.

CBAs vs CCSOn Saturday, July 24th, the Bleeding Heartland Roller Girls Code Blue Assassins quite literally turned up the heat in a battle against the Grand Raggidy Roller Girls G-Rap Attack! Immediately, a couple obstacles presented themselves to the teams. With a new venue, this bout marked the first time Code Blue Assassins have ever skated on a floor other than polished wood. In addition, the heat and humidity of July in southern Indiana cause the concrete floor to sweat shortly after the first whistle. After only 8 jams, game play was stopped as, for the first time in league history (and hopefully the last), the audience was invited to help the team clear the track of condensation. Despite an oppressively hot venue and increased risk of injury, both teams fought against fatigue and dehydration to bring their fans a battle to the finish. The Code Blue Assassins were able to break their own record for the most points scored in a game all season by the 4th jam of the second half. The CBAs had scored 75 points, racing by their previously held season high of 72 points ( vs Cedar Rapids in May).

In a 35-jam bout, G-Rap Attack took Lead Jammer status in the first jam and started out ahead with a score of 8-3. The Code Blue Assassins quickly answered in the second jam and tied the score up at 8-8. Code Blue Assassins led the game in points for most of the bout, aside from one jam in the first half where G-Rap Attack gained a small two-point lead. The first half of the game showed some great defensive action by CBA’s blockers ValHowler, Thigh Candy and Charmed and Dangerous, as well as G-Rap blocker (and former Bleeding Heartland Roller Girl) X-Libris. Fans were treated to a few high scoring jams in the first half by both teams – Shifty McGee had a 10-point jam and Thigh Candy an 8-pointer for the Code Blue Assassins. Jammer for G-Rap, Brassy Knux, scored 12 points in one jam. Thanks to a combo of skillful jamming and excellent defense, the score at the half was 58-56 in favor of the Code Blue Assassins. Scoring leaders in the first half were CBA rookie Shifty McGee (25 points) and G-Rap’s Brassy Knux (33 points).

The high-scoring jammers of the second half were CBA rookie Sadie Macdeath (24 points) and G-Rap’s Lindsey Blowhan and Twinner (21 points each). Fans were treated to two “textbook jams”, where the jammer got through the pack quickly, scored 4 points and immediately called the jam. The first was led by G-Rap jammer, FreakN C. CBA jammer Shifty McGee promptly returned the favor in the very next jam. It wasn’t until the 11th jam of the second half, when CBA Thigh Candy was sent to the penalty box and G-Rap’s jammer, Twinner, got her hands on a power jam and scored a whopping 14 points, that the momentum of the game changed in favor of G-Rap Attack. G-Rap Attack led in points for the final 7 jams of the game, but the Code Blue Assassins never gave up. In the final jam, which was a full two-minute jam due to no lead jammer, CBA’s Sadie Macdeath finished out the game with a 12-point jam! The highest scoring of the night for BHRG went to CBA rookie Shifty McGee, who scored a total of 34 points. GRRG can thank Brassy Knux for the 50 points that she single-handedly added to their score. Ultimately, G-Rap Attack took home the win with a final score of 133-104.
